FHMFHM, an acronym for For Him Magazine, is a monthly men's magazine (of a type known in the as a lad's mag). There are editions produced in many countries, such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and France.
The magazine features extensive photographs of very-scantily clad, attractive women. However, unlike Playboy, the women retain their underwear or their breasts and genitals are hidden by the pose or props. The shoots often feature relatively well-known actors or singers. The magazine is printed on high-quality glossy paper and the photography is of high technical quality.
As well as the photo shoots, the magazine contains articles on a wide variety of topics, including profiles of sports stars, movie, music, technology revies and book reviews, gossip, men's fashion shoots, the "bar scene" in a variety of locations, and extensive discussion of sexual techniques. The magazine is written in a notably "laddish" bar-room discussion style, by comparison to the more literary style of Playboy.
FHM first appeared in the 1990s in the UK and quickly grew in circulation, reducing the sales of other men's magazines. Some media analysts have suggested that by not featuring complete nudity the magazines were seen by men (and their partners) as more respectable purchases.
Other magazines in a somewhat similar style include Maxim (US) and Ralph (Australia).
